Just over 6,700 applications came in from all 13 parishes that were eligible for the program. The 13 parishes were represented roughly in proportion to the damage experienced in the hurricanes. Over 5,300 of the submitted applications met basic eligibility requirements and were admitted to the Round 1 competition.
Applications by Race / Ethnicity of Applicant
The applications were submitted by people from a wide variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. About half the applicants (48%) were male, nearly a third were female (32%) and 20% did not respond. Over 45% were black, nearly 26% were white, 6% were of various other races and 23% did not respond.
