Louisianans Come Home with Road Home Jobs

BATON ROUGE, La, August 22, 2006Hundreds of Louisiana residents affected by Hurricane Rita or Katrina are now proudly employed in jobs created through The Road Home program, state officials announced today.

The Road Home launched a major employment recruiting effort to residents of Louisiana and those living out of state who desire to return. The employment opportunity enables people to remain in the State or to return to reestablish their lives while simultaneously providing a boost to Louisiana’s economy.

These newly hired 345 employees, many of whom are hurricane survivors, will be working to help their fellow Louisianans receive the benefits of The Road Home program thus playing a significant role in the overall effort to build a safer, stronger, smarter Louisiana.  Officials say these employees will staff The Road Home’s ten Housing Assistance Centers located throughout the State, and the Call Center.  At Housing Assistance Centers, eligible homeowners with scheduled appointments will speak one-on-one with housing advisors who can inform them of their individual options under the program.  The employees understand the circumstances of these homeowners and are trained to help them receive assistance vital to the rebuilding and recovery of their homes.

“The Road Home staff is passionate about making a difference for Louisianans affected by Hurricane Katrina or Rita. Employees who have been through the hurricanes and have weathered the storm add a level of unparalleled experience,” said Michael Byrne, chief program executive of The Road Home

For many residents of Louisiana, being hired to work with The Road Home helps them to provide for their families. With regular paychecks, employees are empowered to help their families, friends, neighbors and local businesses.  This is a part of the state’s strong commitment to rebuilding Louisiana communities.
